Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty
Russian State Ballet and Opera House® presents Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.
The world famous Russian State Ballet and Opera House® dates back to 1958. After its foundation the theatre rapidly developed its broad repertoire which now includes world’s famous masterpieces in the field of opera and ballet.
6th November: The Premiere of Swan Lake transforms the classical ballet into a fairy-tale. Featuring a timeless score from incredible composer Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake is a certified classic, replete with evocative music and beautiful dance. The ballet has captured the imagination of many generations over the years and continues to attract audiences worldwide, full of mystery and romance. A compelling legend of tragic romance tells story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil curse, and choreography that allows the very best dancers to show just how impressive they can be. Swan Lake is considered by many to be one of the greatest classical ballets of all time.
7th November: The timeless classic of Sleeping Beauty is performed to the score of Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky. The original choreography of Petipa includes the most magical fairy tale characters which bring to life this spectacular ballet. Princes Aurora is at the centre of a grand christening celebration where she is granted gifts from her fairy godmothers - the gifts of honesty, beauty, prosperity, song and generosity. The ceremony is interrupted by the unwanted wicked fairy Carabosse who puts a curse on the young princess; she will prick her finger and die on her sixteenth birthday. Fortunately, Lilac fairy has not yet presented her christening gift and she manages to minimise the curse where the princess avoids the death but instead falls into long, deep sleep of hundred years long. Only a magical, true love kiss from a Prince can break the spell and awake our princess ….
